The name reflects Colorado's admission to the Union as the 38th state in 1876, the centennial year of the United States Declaration of Independence. The state of Colorado is nicknamed the "Centennial State". With a population of 110,831 people and 28 constituent neighborhoods, Centennial is the tenth largest community in Colorado. The award-winning Littleton Public Schools and Cherry Creek School District are the top school districts in the state and serve the residents of Centennial. Centennial has many hills and its open spaces are usually accompanied by recreational trails and parks, including Dry Creek Dam, DeKoevend Park, the Highline Canal Trail, Willow Creek Trail, as well as Big Dry Creek and Little Dry Creek Trails. Centennial hosts most native wildlife and is a good reflection of Colorado's front range ecosystem.

Golf
South Suburban Golf - A regional public golf course that caters to professionals and amateurs alike. It features a full 18-hole regulation par 72 course for avid players and a 9-hole par 3 course for beginners.
Family Sports Golf Course – A very accessible course for those on the go, Family Sports Golf Course is located just next to the Centennial Airport. It has a 9-hole executive 31 par course and a two-tiered driving range.
